Project SIM-119 was the removal of the existing 650v connections located within track signalling cabinets. The existing connections had exposed terminals which were unsafe for signalling operators who entered the track side location cabinets (LOC’s). In some loc locations, the connections had been shorted out by vermin, which resulted in the cabinets metal frame the potential to become live.
New GRP FSP’s were installed to replace the existing connections, offering, Class II protection with the option to isolate both the incoming and outgoing supplies.
Client Brief
Our client ‘Kier’ contracted Coljoint to assist them with removing the existing 650V isolator located within track signalling location cabinets. These were then replaced with a new Functional supply point (FSP). The existing 650V cables were removed from the cabinet and place into a troughing route. New cables five meters long were installed and terminated into the FSP; these ran to the cut ends of the existing cables. Resin joints were used to joint the new and existing cables together. Cable joints varied in sizes from two core 16mm to 2 core 95mm cables.
